World Systems Proposal  Note: This course is offered to students from two very different programs – undergraduate students from the Adult Graduate Online Program and graduate students in the Masters of Education degree program. This activity has been tailored to accommodate both student background and future use.

 

Only AGO students should complete this activity.

 

Project Description:

 

Fair and Balanced Media: Choose a global current event that has been widely covered by the news media. Review reports of the incident from a broad variety of media sources. as you can find.  You should include at least the following:

CNN and Fox News (online or YouTube clips) National Public Radio (NPR)

A local newspaper

A national newspaper, such as the New York Times or the Washington Post An international newspaper, such as the Toronto Star or the London Times Two alternative news sites, such as the Huffington Post or The Drudge Report World Systems Proposal

 

Evaluate what you find. What elements of the story are included in all versions? What elements are found in only one or two sources? Which sources do you find most reliable? Did any of the sources reveal a political or commercial bias? Did you find any noticeable difference in the way the story was reported in the international press?

 

Write up your conclusions into a report no longer than two pages, but be sure to correctly list all your sources on a reference page at the end of your report.

This brief proposal should include a description of your topic, a list of potential sources for investigation, and the reason that you chose this topic.
