  1. Consider what you have learned about respiratory therapy thus far about the healthcare educator , determinants of learning, and client learning in general. Reflect on your experience, and expertise in respiratory therapy, and consider what you are learning, or have learned about the methods to identify both barriers and obstacles, as discussed in chapter one of the course text. Reflect on your area of study or previous experience you have within that field. Reflect on what specific expertise you have in relation to patient and staff education, as it relates to respiratory therapy. Next, review learning styles, starting on pages 122-145 of the course text. While reviewing pages 122-145 of the course text, take notes on the various learning styles, along with the various models, theories, and evidenced based research related to learning styles. In a 1250-2000 word, double-spaced, paper, conduct a meta-analysis of all learning styles, as well as barriers and obstacles to learning. When preparing to write your paper, take into consideration the questions below.
  2. How do the six learning principles play a role in patient/staff learning, as related to learning style? What experiences do you have with the learning principles?
  3. What are commonly used learning style models and instruments, that can be utilized with both staff education, and patient education?
  4. How does Dunn and Dunn learning style model play a role in learning (environmental, emotional, sociological, physical, and psychological)? How does this play a role specifically with patients who may suffer from respiratory issues?
  5. How might Jung and Myers-Briggs Typology theory play a role in learning as it relates to respiratory therapy?
  6. How might Kolb’s experiential learning model play a role in learning? Have you ever used pieces of this model?
  7. Regarding clients who are children, how might the Gardner’s eight types of intelligence play a role in teaching a child, and how might this affect patient compliance with respiratory issues?
  8. Do you believe one model or theory to be better than another in your area of study? Have you utilized a model or theory in your experience that supports your thoughts/perspectives on this? Explain.
  9. What research based evidence is available to support each model or theory you have discussed in your paper?
  10. List common barriers to learning, and discuss how we assess and help patients/staff overcome barriers? Share experiences you have with helping patients and staff overcome barriers.
