Modules 5 and 6

Discussion on nutritional needs for heart failure patient Mr. Frank has consented to participating in an elderly interview with a nursing student.  The student knows about his history in advance and wants to discuss nutritional needs for a person with heart failure.

Mr. Frank tells the student that he is very happy with his life and that he loves his retirement.  He keeps himself busy and he enjoys doing activities while he still can.  He does have some concerns about his health but feels that he is doing fine.

Mr. Frank has been started on ondansetron and dexamethasone for occasional nausea from a “stomach bug”.  He has also been taking aluminum hydroxide for indigestion.  Mr. Frank has noticed a decrease in his appetite and states he isn’t eating “as much as I should, and I know my pants are getting loose around my waist”.  He also confides that he does like cheeseburgers off the dollar menu at the local fast-food place but eats them “in moderation”. discussion on nutritional needs for heart failure patient
