Depression as an interest of research. This is a frequently discussed subject in psychology research papers. Depression is such a broad theme that there are many subtopics to choose from. There will be many topics to address while writing a report about depression. To begin, a proper description of depression must be determined. There are often moments when people get a bit down or blue. It should be noted that depression differs from such moodiness in that it is a psychiatric disorder (Howdeshell & Ornoy, 2017).

My research work will dig deeper into the best definition of clinical depression. Secondly, my work will elaborate on the different types of depression. The symptoms showing up in a victim of depression determine the type of depression they might be suffering from. For example, major depression disorder (MDD) lacks a known cause, whereas postpartum depression can be attributed to child birth in women. Furthermore, causes of depression will be established (Howdeshell & Ornoy, 2017). Depression as an interest of research.

This is because the causes are numerous and have never been fully comprehended. Also, the paper will look at the population group that is most vulnerable to depression. There are a number of factors that may make one more prone to the condition. Such conditions include: depression history in the family, experiences, gender, and illnesses (Montserrat-Capdevila et al., 2017). Another pertinent issue to be tackled are the depression signs and symptoms. In addition, my research will lay down the procedures of diagnosing depression. Last but not the least; the paper will jot down the treatment options for depression.

Self-Management of Chronic Illness

Chronic disease as being present for more than one year, requiring continued medical attention and intervention, could limit the patient to daily activities, interfere in the family relationship, and become significant stress for both the patient and all family members. Chronic illness can be caused by many risk factors as could be tobacco, alcohol, and drug abuse, poor nutrition, being exposed to extreme diets, sedentary life, and many other risks. Depression as an interest of research.

“The Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP) is an effective self-management education program for people with chronic health problems. It specifically addresses arthritis, diabetes, and lung and heart disease, but teaches skills useful for managing a variety of chronic diseases”.(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2012). Sometimes it is difficult for a person with a chronic illness to express how they feel about what they are going through or be scared about telling someone. They may think that people can judge them, or maybe that no one cares about their illness. Sometimes they fall into a deep depression because they do not have the tools to learn about life and accept their condition. Creating research papers is vitally important; they can find much interesting information to manage the chronic disease’s best possible way.

This topic is of great interest to me since in my family, I had two relatives who died due to cancer, a 45-year-aunt with breast cancer metastases to the brain, hip, and lungs, and my grandfather’s 81-year prostate cancer. It affected us all as a family. It was a difficult period, and we first had to look for information and investigate it to understand the situation they were going through. Then accept what was happening and learn how to fight against cancer. From my perspective as a nurse, I could notice that they first went through a period of denial, anger, and depression. Thanks to reading many research papers like this, we understood what they were going through and help them manage their disease, It also gave them hope and strength to live happier, and we as the family learned the best way to support them.           My goal with this topic is that people with chronic diseases know the necessary resources to live and deal with their condition and that their relatives be able to understand what they are going through internally, understand and support them throughout their long process. Also, let them know that they can look for support groups with the same condition. Also, they can ask their health care provider where to find helpful research that provides them with the necessary materials to get informed and have a better quality of life. “Participants who took CDSMP demonstrated significant improvements in exercise and ability to do social and household activities. They had less depression, fear, frustration, and worry about their health. They experienced a reduction in symptoms like pain and increased confidence in their ability to manage their condition”. (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2012)
