The products for the mental health campaign project include pamphlets, monthly newsletters, campaign posters, and billboards containing information about mental health issues. The products would be brief and straight to the point and it will contain the contact information of where students can get assistance in case they feel anxious, depressed, or chronically hopeless. Furthermore, the pamphlets would contain information about ongoing therapies, that is, in-person therapies and group therapies. Students who have subscribed to the campaign would also receive emails containing e-newsletters and other important information about mental health.
The Intended Audience
The intended audience for the products are university students and the setting is higher institutions of learning. The students would use the information contained in the monthly newsletters, pamphlets, and campaign posters to improve their knowledge about mental health. The information contained in the print media products would help students prioritize their mental health issues and also mobilize the efforts to support the mental health status (Patel et al., 2011). The products would also provide the students and other stakeholders in higher institutions of learning with the opportunity to talk about the challenges they face in their academic and social life and how the challenges affect their lives (Prince, 2015). The students would also use the information contained in the products to seek professional help in situations where they feel mentally stressed or have symptoms that might indicate an underlying mental health condition.
Rationale for Development of the Project
Mental health is a prevalent issue in higher institutions of learning. Professionals and leaders in higher institutions of learning are increasingly getting concerned about the mental health wellness of students. According to a study conducted in United States’ colleges and universities, mental health visits have increased by 81% in private universities and 76% in public universities since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This increase indicates the growing need for mental health products and resources in higher institutions of learning. In a study conducted by a non-profit advocate group, Rise, four out of five students in community colleges and universities indicated that their lives have been affected since the spread of COVID-19, with 75% of the students stating that the pandemic led to increased depression, anxiety and stress. With the closure of most universities and colleges due to the pandemic, most students expressed the inability to access mental health services and to afford it. This mental health campaign program would therefore satisfy the need for students to access mental health services by providing them with resources and contact information of where they can get professional mental health-related assistance.
